November 24 & 25, 2006The Candlelight Walk dates back to 1983 when it all began by the newly formed Chesaning Boulevard Association. It was for one day only, Sunday of Thanksgiving Weekend, and its purpose was to create public awareness of the unique specialty shops. It did not involve the lighting of any candles. In 1984, approximately 1,000 candles were lit for the first time along the Boulevard area. The event, as you see it now, has been expanded and centers around the lighting of thousands of illumintes over a two day period. The entire boulevard and downtown area are blocked off to traffic from 5 pm unitl 9 pm on Friday and Saturday. This allows people to walk amongst the glowing illuminares and horse drawn vehicles, which is the only traffic allowed on the streets.
